Hartford is a compact urban multifamily project where the same material logic runs from the front door to the bathroom. The goal was to make a small building feel deliberate: every surface has a reason, and every color appears in more than one room so the architecture reads as a connected whole.

Arrival is symmetrical and quiet. Soft sage stripes on warm white plaster create a measured rhythm across the vestibule, while black-framed frosted panels and antique brass sconces set at a residential height replace the typical commercial entry language. A pair of planted black troughs grounds the space and marks the transition from sidewalk to lobby.

Residential corridors extend the same palette. A sage accent plane with slim black battens runs the length of the hall, blush unit doors carry oversized black numerals, and surface-mounted cylinder downlights keep the ceiling plane clean. Dark oak herringbone flooring carries the warmth of the entry into every wing of the building.

The stair lounge is designed as a pause room rather than a pass-through. Terracotta lounge chairs sit against a white plaster wall with a single abstract artwork, while the dark oak stair and a cove-lit soffit turn the landing into a small gallery between floors.

Inside the units, warmth arrives through cabinetry and tile rather than decoration. Kitchenettes pair ochre upper cabinets with blush base cabinets over a herringbone backsplash, so the cooking area reads as a single colored object within a neutral shell. Integrated appliances and slim hardware keep the composition flat and calm.

Bathrooms continue the same material story with vertical terracotta tile, grey terrazzo floors, an arched mirror and black fittings. The result is a small residential building that punches above its scale through consistency — every room feels like part of the same conversation.
